Faster pot changes and simpler operation have made a significant difference at Anntons Nursery, where a new Da Ros I5 Potting Machine has been customised to suit the nursery’s requirements.
For Managing Director Steve Burton, the investment builds on the reliability of the nursery’s previous I5, with preloaded potting programmes and more stainless-steel components helping the team get the most from its replacement.
A proven machine tailored to suit
Anntons Nursery’s previous I5 had delivered very little downtime over its lifetime. When it was time for a new machine, the team chose the same model, with customisation focused on the nursery’s various potting requirements.
A key part of the setup was loading programmes for the combinations of plant species and pot sizes the nursery works with. Each programme has preset settings for potting machine speed, drill hole depth, conveyor belt speeds and soil volume flow.
This means staff can select the programme for the plants they are potting, and the machine automatically adjusts those settings.
Change the pot plate and select the programme
When changing pot size, staff now only need to change the internal pot plate to match the pot they are using and select the appropriate programme. The I5 adjusts the remaining machine settings automatically.
With up to 50 potting programmes available, the team can move between different production requirements without manually adjusting each setting.
Steve says this has reduced pot size changeovers to the press of a button and a handful of minutes.
“The updates to the latest machine compared to the previous model has meant the speed and ease of changing between different potting programs has made a significant difference to our day-to-day production efficiency.”
For Anntons Nursery, having the settings loaded during setup has made that efficiency part of everyday operation.
Simpler operation for the team
The customised setup gives staff a straightforward process for moving between potting runs. Once the correct pot plate is fitted, selecting a programme brings the required settings into place.
Steve describes the I5 as incredibly versatile and efficient to operate. The response from his team has been equally positive.
“My potting team have never been happier.”
More stainless steel for demanding conditions
The new I5 also incorporates more stainless-steel parts. Steve appreciates the robust construction and sees it as a solid foundation for long-term service.
“This gives us great confidence that the I5 is built to withstand many years of service in NZ’s demanding conditions using NZ’s abrasive potting mixes.”
An investment delivering everyday benefits
For Anntons Nursery, the new I5 combines a familiar, proven model with a setup tailored to the way its team works. Faster changeovers and automatic programme adjustments have improved day-to-day efficiency and made the machine easier to operate.
Steve has the last word, “Overall, the I5 has been a fantastic investment for our business, and we are very pleased with its performance and reliability.”
