Best controlled-release fertiliser for NZ crops?

Jun 23, 2023 - Category : Growing Media

When it comes to fertilisers growers have many choices, but ultimately they all want the same outcome – more uniform and healthy trees.

To assist, PrimeHort collaborated with American-based fertiliser specialist, Polyon, to develop the best value fertiliser on the New Zealand market. Our Polyon formula is a tailored blend of controlled release fertiliser designed to feed plants for up to two years in all NZ conditions.

Polyon have been in business since 1941 designing and delivering a consistent feeding system that lasts for months, all with just one application. There are no risks of the particles cracking or releasing nutrients too early.

Our sales team would be happy to discuss the right fertiliser for your nursery or greenhouse operation. We can look at your trade list and identify which blend of fertiliser will maximise crop yields. Some of the growers we have assisted have given feedback indicating growth rate increases of up to 22 percent, just by using our customised fertiliser.

We are working with growers of all size and scale. Many have fertiliser spends ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 per month. Kauri Park Nurseries in Kaiwaka, Northland work on large-scale planting projects across the country and are seeing excellent results from Polyon. They had the following to say:

“We get a very uniform grade with a rich colour. Our plants are holding extremely well – giving us and our clients a great shelf life on our planted seedlings. Our plants have also shown exceptional root structure with no spiking over the heat of summer – this is a real plus for us and anyone trying to grow quality plants in NZ’s unique climate. With good longevity after planting plus we are experience an excellent grade compared to container size – it’s fair to say we are extremely happy with Polyon.”

BENEFITS OF POLYON FERTILISER:

Save money.
Having just one application allows cost-savings on labour. Growth is steady rather than surging, again saving on labour output.

Green technology.
Within each patented polyurethane membrane is a host of nutrients ready to feed the root zone slowly, constantly, daily, and for up to two years, which also prevents excessive growth.

Efficient growth.
Polyon undertook independent research to test its nutrient-use efficiency. The results showed maximum effectiveness, engineered to provide 100% controlled-release with virtually no nutrient lock-off or nitrogen loss compared to competing fertilisers.

Suited to all NZ climates.
Polyon have designed a variety of polymer coating thicknesses to allow for NZ’s different soil types, soil temperatures and season lengths. Essentially, the membrane slowly releases dissolved nutrients through diffusion, only when triggered by soil temperature. So if the formula needs to change to suit your feeding program, we will have a solution.

Easy handling.
The durable coating means it is dust-free and safe to handle.

Bulk buy savings.
Polyon Fertilisers are available in 25kg bags, but the more you purchase the bigger the savings become. For example, as at June 2023 our PrimeHort Catalogue showed the 12-14 month Polyon as $192 per 25kg bag, $182 for 10-39 bags, $165 for 40+ bags – or by the 1089kg sling which brings the cost down to $155 per bag.
